MindTastik Meditation App Earns $35,000 Monthly

It all started when I saw a Facebook ad selling a meditation PC app for $9.9. After trying it, I genuinely felt it helped me, so I wondered why there wasn’t a meditation app for phones—and then I decided to build one.

By that time, there were already plenty of meditation apps, but we plunged in anyway. (Our friend had invested money, so we weren’t feeling any financial pressure.)

Execution:

We drafted a content plan and themes for the meditation app, hired freelancers on freelance platforms to create the content, and produced 100 episodes. Then we hit a wall—no developers. (That’s right; neither of us was technical.)

We interviewed many people during the process before finally finding an Indian team to handle the outsourcing. It cost us $10,000.

After numerous rejections and revisions, we finally got the app live. We assumed downloads would roll in steadily, but daily installs never exceeded 20, and nobody paid. So we built a website and ran SEO and ASO campaigns—with no results.

Desperate, we hired an ASO agency for $1,100. While working with them, I learned how to do it ourselves: we re-tested everything from the app title and subtitle to keywords, screenshots, and icons, running A/B tests.

We priced it at $5 monthly or $40 annually—cheaper than most competitors.

We launched in March 2019. On good days, we got one paying user and 20 downloads.

ASO optimization and the key moves:

We broke the main app’s themes into specific micro-use cases—like sleep meditation for pregnant women—and published each as a separate app using the same tech stack. This multi-app strategy let us capture traffic across many more keywords.

Thanks to that approach, we hit 200,000 downloads by the end of 2019.

Here’s the twist: those standalone niche apps charged just $7 a month, while the main app was $40 a year… which actually pushed users toward the premium main app.

In March 2020, when the pandemic hit, meditation app traffic surged overall. We started running paid ads to capture more users, and by then 50% of our traffic came from paid channels.

Today, monthly revenue has reached $35,000. Twenty percent of our traffic is paid, and 80% is organic. SEO is fully outsourced, and I mainly supervise our partners’ content updates—both for the site and for the app’s meditation library (which is also handled by freelance writers).

This is a textbook case of having just one idea and relying entirely on outsourcing to bring it to life.
