A Workplace Rights Guide for Workers
To be precise, this is a guide on how to protect your rights when laid off. With the economic downturn, more people may need it. After seeing some bloggers share it, I’ve compiled the key points here. For those who haven’t experienced this, remember these three rules (hopefully you never have to use them):
- Don’t trust any verbal promises or guarantees—everything depends on written documentation. Any rules or agreements without written form are invalid;
- Record all communications and conversations (audio or video). These records are for your own protection (for example, in case of threats based on background checks or other information);
- To maximize your interests, don’t make hasty decisions under emotional pressure;
In short, don’t sign any documents casually that state “resignation for personal reasons,” “acknowledged,” or “agreed.” Read everything carefully before making any decisions. If you have questions about the documents, you can call 12348 or 12345 for official guidance from government personnel—and also protect your rights while you’re at it.
