The point is this: merely knowing things won't help you.
What does help is displaying your wisdom in any domain, because demonstrating wisdom is what advances your work and accelerates your promotion.
People don't care what knowledge you possess—knowledge is just a medium. They want to know, from their own judgment, whether you are talent.
So experience has shown that being liked matters more than simply working hard. Unless your raw capability—your IQ plus EQ—puts you a full class above everyone else, the question becomes: who wins? Whoever is liked, whoever is trusted, wins.
When those who control resources see you as talent, resources flow toward you. And only when resources pour into you does success feel effortless.
