The biggest problem: the rush to prove yourself and show how you stand out.

Many people may never realize that the "self" you cling to doesn't actually exist.

You think you have something unique that serves as your core. But peel away at that thing—peel away what you express, or what you want to express—layer by layer, going deeper.

What's left may be nothing. What you believe is truly yours might simply be fragments of hearsay, or even misunderstandings passed along from one person to the next.

This sounds harsh, but if you want to grow, facing this truth is unavoidable.

Every step you take on life's path counts. If you want to speed up, don't cut corners or skip steps—instead, minimize the time you spend on each one.

Three factors influence how much time you spend at each step: talent, resources, and effort.

Talent is something you're born with, resources are handed to you by your parents, and effort is the one thing you can control.
