What Is Civilization?

No more fistfights—now it’s all about fooling each other. That’s what we call “civilization.”

People are just built to compete. Once they stop using brute force, they switch to wits. And “competing with wits” means I’ll set you a trap while you dismantle mine, neither of us getting a break from weaving and unweaving schemes. Traps within traps, plans within plans—and we’re happy to keep going.

Because it always comes back to利益. Look at Wolffy and Lazy Sheep. They’ve been at each other’s throats all this time, and for what? A taste of mutton. If something good just fell from the sky, that’d only happen in a dream.
