How to Follow Up With Clients

CategoryNews Briefs

Here’s a process for following up with clients via email, which also works well for phone calls and WeChat or other channels. Use it as a reference.

Ideally, your first step is making sure these people are actually your customers.

First follow-up:

Highlight anything your product excels at, and show how it solves problem X.

Demonstrate how your customers use your tool to solve problem X and achieve result Y.

Then keep it simple: “We’re currently helping ABC Company do exactly this, and we’d be happy to share how we can help your business achieve similar results!”

Wrap it up with a demo of how it works.

Subsequent follow-ups:

“I’m curious—have you thought about how X could impact your ability to solve Y?”

Share the results that our earliest customer Z saw after using our solution to address their challenge.

Let me know if you’d like to hear more—I’d be glad to share!

Make sure every follow-up adds extra value for the client. Space out your follow-ups so that if someone doesn’t reply, the next one goes out three days later.

Follow up five times in total.

On your final message, tell the prospect you won’t follow up again, but you’d love to hear from them if they explore further along the way. Don’t be stingy. Stay polite, and move on!
