The first摆摊 I ever heard of were these matchmaking setups — a social website where you pay to get contact info from the opposite sex, then you have a physical stall (I think guys pay to submit and retrieve contacts, while women get in free), and you can even apply to become a distributor…

There used to be all this talk about encouragingstreet vending and flexible employment. It got a big boost a couple of years back, but lately the fight for online traffic has gotten fierce, with local food bloggers everywhere. They couldn't quite pull off the摆摊 plus live-streaming or摆摊 plus social media traffic-driving model, but someone actually made it work.
