Viruses Can Survive by Living on Microplastics
Viruses can remain viable and infectious by attaching to plastics in water. Microplastics are ubiquitous—found in our food, drinking water, and air—and they protect the viruses from destructive elements like ultraviolet radiation by coating their surfaces.
Combined with previous findings of microplastics in the human body, it's pretty unsettling.
Consider that heavy metals are inherently toxic—as active ingredients in chemical pesticides—and travel up the food chain through plants and water, accumulating in apex predators like humans. This buildup triggers various health issues once immune function declines in later life. Now, viruses can be transferred directly into the food chain via microplastics, much like heavy metals.
