What to Watch for When Buying a School District Home
When it comes to school-district homes in commercial real estate sales, just take it with a grain of salt.
School district boundaries are typically reassigned each spring by the district-level education authority. That means assignments aren’t fixed—your home might be in a good school zone this year and not next.
If policies change, developers will just say, “We’re sorry, we didn’t want this either.” When that happens, no matter what promises were made upfront, a home isn’t a school-district property if it’s not zoned for the school. If you’re buying for investment, you may be able to sue for partial damages. If you’re buying so your child can attend a specific school, you’re likely out of luck.
