Who can offer you more than three times your current salary? Only R&D and sales teams at top-tier companies — the critical roles that come with either consistently high pay or the opportunity to cash out upon going public. If they can’t give you that kind of raise, then pursuing this industry is basically throwing money away.

By the time you hit 35 and haven’t earned in a decade what someone in their 60s has already made, you’ll get laid off with nothing to show for it.
