As you climb higher, people become more like zombies. Because there's no real "you" left—you've disappeared entirely, leaving behind only a position, or rather, an ecological niche. Whoever sits in that role has to become the exact same thing.
Meanwhile, grassroots employees are wonderfully diverse—people of every stripe, with every kind of idea. Each one is a vibrant, living, breathing person with a unique face.
