The Deceptiveness of Marriage

Before marriage, especially for Eastern men, they work very hard to present themselves, trying to show off their best qualities and line up their virtues one by one—1, 2, 3, 4, 5. But once they’re married, those issues start to fade. For example, whether they need to maintain their figure or keep surprising their partner suddenly seems unimportant. Eastern women generally assume that a man will decline after marriage, dropping from 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 down to 1, 2, 3, or even just 1. Since both sides share this expectation, the marriage can hold together. The current high divorce rate exists because the “1, 2, 3, 4, 5” facade is a lie—they can’t sustain it after marriage, and women no longer accept that decline. If a woman believes you were a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 before marriage, she’ll expect you to be at least a 6 or 7 afterward.
