A Car Selling Scam Story
Chasing small bargains often leads to big losses. You care about making an extra bit of money to break even, but scammers count on never paying you to make their profit.
The author here wanted to sell their car for a bit more, only to find out the buyer in Ningbo was a dishonest debtor who signed the contract but paid only the down payment, then never settled the remaining balance. Others sold similar cars for around 110,000 yuan, but the author hoped to get 130,000. A buyer appeared willing, but only paid 50,000 yuan before vanishing—by then, the car had already been nearly fully transferred into the buyer’s name.
If you want to sell quickly and avoid getting scammed, it’s better to accept a slightly lower price than market value and insist on full payment upfront.
