Opportunity is debt. If you can't shoulder the burden of debt, how can you carry opportunity? Most people are actually useless even when opportunities come their way. Because "being useful" is a comprehensive evaluation.
You need connections to become an executive; you need resources (meaning the ability to get people to work for you without paying) to be a boss. Even if you just want to be a low-level manager, you still need people to listen to you and follow your directions.
