Is public opinion monitoring important?
I only read the first half, but someone calling public opinion monitoring "dirty work" is really over the line. Yes, manually monitoring public sentiment is exhausting, but this work is important—and it's not dirty.
If fake accounts were only impersonating companies to post content, announce products, and lure people into payment scams, that would be just one small part of it. As the article points out, if municipal-level institutions aren't careful and their names or titles are impersonated to create false content for fraud, the number of victims would be staggering. There's already a huge market for scams involving fake central government "red-headed documents" among middle-aged and elderly people in lower-tier cities—many official accounts and websites have published clarifications about this.
Public opinion work is exhausting because it's manual, but it's also critically important.
