When you're rich, you'll experience "his freedom" (tā yóu), not true freedom. "His freedom" means a bunch of fair-weather friends surround you, plotting to get your money. You think you're free, but actually you're trapped—you're being played. You believe everyone is indulging you, but in reality, you're the one indulging them, until you run out of money.

When you're broke, you'll experience "his discipline" (tā lǜ), not self-discipline. "His discipline" means someone forces you to work overtime, write daily reports, submit weekly updates, and regularly inspect your progress—or else they'll toss you back into society to sink or swim. When your stomach growls, you just accept that external control, submitting to being disciplined by others.
