Don’t assume smart people never make silly mistakes. If you can figure it out, surely a smart person can too. You wouldn’t dare skip a work meeting even once—imagine what would happen if you did. Your colleagues would take the opportunity to push all the blame onto you while you’re gone, let alone anything involving money.
