Aid in emergencies, not in poverty

The urgent problem is singular and well-defined, but poverty is a complex undertaking.

Life itself is the same kind of systematic project.

Getting suddenly rich doesn't guarantee that life will improve. If a person's overall capacities don't keep up, they get carried away, inflate their ego, and start acting out. They might have been doing fine—even if poor—before the money arrived, but once they lose their head and start showing off, they can ruin their life entirely.

The same goes for human relationships. People who once stuck together through thick and thin can see their humanity warp and tragedy unfold when confronted with massive wealth.

People simply can't withstand such tests, and wealth itself happens to be the very test.
