Corporate: Two Types Only

One approach is to avoid monopoly. If you don't monopolize, you can't make money. If you can't make money, you're left just drawing crowds—so you have to pretend you're unique, that you've monopolized some niche segment. That's how you fool investors into handing over their cash.

The other approach is genuine monopoly. You monopolize, you make serious money—but you have to pretend you aren't monopolizing, or else antitrust laws will break you up.

So you hunt for a sub-niche. You can't monopolize an entire industry—can you monopolize a sub-segment? If not, can you monopolize a second-tier sub-segment?

There are plenty of beggars, but almost no one begging specifically for breakfast. That breakfast-begging competitor is rare, and the margins look fat.
