Many People Overestimate Their Own Tolerance

There was a great reference point in the comments:

We used to have a geriatric ward where many elderly patients stayed long-term. During the day, they’d walk around or sit in the small courtyard chatting. Eventually, some of them formed friendships and requested to be moved to the same room. But soon after, conflicts erupted—relationships grew tense and rigid, forcing us to separate them again. Being able to chat doesn’t mean you can live together. Only constant proximity reveals all the countless sharp thorns you can’t tolerate in each other.
