If someone’s already in a position and won’t step aside, how can you take it?

Someone born in the 1960s became a chairman within six years. Someone from the 1970s or 1980s reached executive level in the same timeframe. And a 1990s-born person—possibly even more capable—might still be stuck at an entry-level position, going nowhere.

It's not that you haven't worked hard. It's that there are plenty of excellent candidates from your generation, and there simply aren't enough openings.

If you think of a person as a mouse, sometimes the granary is made of bamboo with lots of holes. All your so-called effort amounts to is scratching those holes a bit bigger so you can eat a little more.

But other times, the granary is reinforced with steel-reinforced concrete. What exactly are you scratching at? Do you really think you're a pangolin?
