Advice for Solo Creators Just Starting Out
- Know your melt rate. ?
This means knowing your monthly cost of living. If you don’t know how much you need to cover your expenses, it’s unlikely you’ll make it. Get a handle on your finances—it’s key.
- Start making money early. ?
I missed a few chances to monetize because I wasn’t mature enough yet; I felt uncomfortable asking users for money. If you can, start charging as soon as possible!
- Pay upfront.?
You might want to buy ads or subscribe to reliable SaaS tools. If you can’t pay for them yourself, don’t bother—try workarounds instead.
- Spend your best energy on yourself. ⏰
I dedicate my best hours to the projects I love most. I’m a morning person, so I work on my side project before my day job starts.
- Be selective about who you partner with. ?
Find other founders working on similar projects with similar time commitments—building together can be fun. Don’t compare yourself to teams that’ve raised $40 million; they’re under pressure from investors, and you’re not.
- Celebrate small wins. ?
