Seriously was founded by former executives from Rovio, the studio behind Angry Birds.

Their idea: create free games, weave stories and strong character arcs into them, build momentum through the games, then develop merchandise and eventually a major film. No money in the early stage (game content); profit comes later (merch, movies).

A bit like China's Where Are We Going, Dad?, going from a TV variety show to a mobile game to a blockbuster.
