CategoryOpportunities

The author visited a community yoga studio and calculated its costs and revenue:

Open seven days a week, with two classes on weekday afternoons and evenings and two on weekends, for a total of 12 classes per week, 48 per month, and 576 per year.

The receptionist earns 2,500 yuan per month. Yoga instructors are paid 100–150 yuan per class, averaging 125 yuan, bringing the annual payroll to 102,000 yuan.

A permanent front-desk staff member also handles general duties. Instructors come only when they have classes and leave right after. Each session typically runs one hour. Most yoga instructors teach at multiple studios or gyms, earning more with more classes.

Rent is 1,600 yuan per month. The lease has one year remaining on a three-year contract. The unfurnished space was quite affordable; a comparable furnished unit in the same area goes for around 4,000 yuan per month.

The transfer fee was a one-time payment of 25,000 yuan. The previous owner installed all fixtures and furnishings, so no renovation cost was included.

Utilities run about 200 yuan per month, and property management fees are 288 yuan per month.

As of publication, the studio has over 50 members. Most hold annual memberships, while a smaller group has monthly or quarterly passes. Some have also purchased specialty offerings such as private lessons and aerial yoga, and additional students have joined the yoga teacher-training program.

With 20 annual members, that generates 57,600 yuan per year. The remaining 30 members, calculated at the lowest class rate, contribute at least 86,400 yuan annually, bringing total annual revenue to 144,000 yuan. One-on-one private sessions cost 280 yuan per class, split evenly between the instructor and the studio, with a common promotion of buy ten classes, get two free.

In other words, a typical community yoga studio nets an annual profit of around 40,000–60,000 yuan. The studio the author visited was also nicely designed—for example, mirrors were used to create a sense of expanded space. Read the full article for more details.
