What most people think education is
Why do children disobey when they come home—making decisions that are actually in your favor?
Education and management that ignore human nature lead only to complaints.
If the expected value of your punishment (multiplied by the probability of it being applied) exceeds the benefit they gain, you cannot stop them from taking the risk.
Your approach must be grounded in the other person’s perspective.
It must also be tailored to their actual circumstances.
Teach only when they are ready to listen.
You yourself must be credible.
Execution matters: What is your goal? What resources do you have? (Are your resources aligned with your goals?)
The essence of management is earning people’s respect—whether it’s your team or your superiors, the end result is that others must respect you. Any advice you give must be something you can deliver on; only then will others truly accept it.
