How Internet Corruption Works
For a shrewd buyer, the safest targets are mundane consumables—where volume, not unit price, often offers the widest room for graft.
Power and position can absolutely be monetized.
Operations folks can divert company traffic to their own side gigs, funnel subsidies to relatives, or demand kickbacks from vendors… They can leverages the platform’s reputation to run paid training programs, or collude with suppliers to pocket portion of rejected goods and payments.
Engineering staff can sell user data to scammers, launch cash-on-delivery fraud schemes… or sell source code when they jump ship, expecting a higher salary on the premise that they’ll bring it with them.
Human resources: let headhunters take a cut at each stage, take on private side work while claiming overtime, or inflate bonuses to skim a percentage.
Finance: siphon working capital into wealth-management products or lending; if the boss wants to tweak the financials, finance has to pay a cut.
