Baidu and Zhihu SEO Traffic Capture and the Decline of Independent Blogs

CategoryReading Notes

The author made a little money by ranking on the first page of search results for SEO through his own website. Wanting to amplify the effect, he cross-posted the content to Zhihu, where it ranked well and pushed his blog posts down. Then, out of desperation to boost his blog's ranking, he deleted the Zhihu posts—only to have someone else copy them back onto Zhihu and intercept the traffic.

This suggests that original content from small sites is easily siphoned off by Baidu's products in Chinese search engines. (Well known)

So if you care about SEO traffic, consider backing up your key content to Zhihu as a priority.

As the author mentioned, it's quite disgusting that someone can simply take others' content, repost it on Zhihu, and replace the links with their own monetization addresses to make money.
