Strategic Games in Relationships

CategoryReading Notes

When in school, girls tend to like straight-A students—they seem motivated and full of vitality.

A few years into their careers, women can no longer ignore their future. Can someone who has worked for a few years and only saved 100,000 yuan afford to buy a house in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen? And with her contribution, with both families pooling resources, could they? After working for a few years, it's impossible to remain as naive as one was on campus.

For wealthy individuals, especially second-generation rich kids, the simplest strategy is to throw money around—to win girls over through lavish spending and by broadening their horizons.

He knows his advantage isn't academic excellence, but something that surpasses that—like taking girls to high-end venues, buying them expensive gifts, letting them ride in his luxury car, showing off his mansion, or having his father make a few calls so she can enjoy envious looks from everyone around. He contrasts these with the straight-A student: showing her how the top student squeezes onto the subway, gets sidelined by colleagues, or gets kicked out by the landlord. As an adult from a privileged background, he will definitely use these tactics. After a while, he'll deliberately give her the cold shoulder—a classic case of playing hard to get. This pushes her back to squeezing onto the subway and living in cramped rentals, making her realize how difficult work becomes without his help. Then, through various signals, he makes her feel that many other girls are pursuing him.

It's hard to adjust from luxury to simplicity—it's human nature to follow the crowd. When you see everyone in a supermarket rushing to grab the same item, you'll also get swept up and join the fray. How much more so when it's a second-generation rich guy? Once you exploit these two aspects of human nature, there's no way for a girl to escape his control.

You might think nothing of living a hard life, but once you've tasted the easy version of life where you can just pull strings, going back becomes unbearable. Besides, competitors keep pushing: "Act now or it'll be gone," or "This opportunity won't come again." In reality, 99% of women will inevitably fall under this control. These tactics have nothing to do with personal charm—no matter how clueless the second-generation rich guy is, his father will teach him, and his grandfather will too.

More often than not, girls willingly fall into this trap. They don't even need these methods—they'll chase him主动ly on their own.

And in reality, most girls wouldn't wait around for their straight-A student to eventually succeed. There are too many variables; having ambition and ability alone doesn't guarantee success—it's quite rare. So most real-life girls actually pursue the rich second generation主动ly, while keeping the straight-A student on the back burner, worried they might end up with nothing if they don't hedge their bets.

That's where the terms "fallback guy" and "slow-to-warm-up" come from.

Have you ever wondered why there's a term called "slow-to-warm-up"?
