The Folly of Teaching

Besides the old adage about teaching an apprentice until they make the master obsolete...

What's more common is human pettiness—grateful people are few and far between.

Since ancient times, teaching someone well rarely earns praise, but teaching someone to be a con artist guarantees infamy. Those who succeed and transform their lives will not one of them be grateful. On the contrary, they'll go out of their way to distance themselves from their origins, polishing up their image until they come across as impeccable, claiming they never had a mentor—much like a former sex worker who's gone straight and refuses to acknowledge the madam who took her in back in the day.
