In much of China, summer now arrives 15–60 days earlier (with temperatures hitting 30°C around Lixia) and ends 10–30 days later. In some areas, precipitation has dropped by as much as two-thirds, pushing them into water scarcity, and in a few regions crop yields have nearly failed due to water shortages. Meanwhile, extreme weather events—including hail, torrential rain and flooding, and severe cold (primarily extreme heat)—are increasing.
