Billions-dollar Dal Group Relies on Imitation

The best business model over the past decade has been to copy others' work. China's manufacturing sector doesn't need to innovate; it can replicate successful products, then drive prices down to a level affordable on average incomes. For example, Dali Group built its entire business by copying products, cutting costs, and flooding the market with celebrity-endorsed ads to rapidly achieve domestic substitution, ultimately reaching hundreds of billions in revenue. (Xiaomi's product lineup was basically built the same way.)

But this approach won't necessarily work in the future, because China now needs to replace the United States in international markets. This requires telling China's story globally and capturing international market share.
