Trying to fit into this society is what real effort looks like.

You come from a poor rural area, which means the people and experiences you've been exposed to are disconnected from society.

Your native family can't give you any correct guidance. So at this point, the only thing you can do is integrate—leave your hometown, enter the city, get a job first, and after finding work, observe what city folks talk about, what they're thinking about, and how they make decisions. Communicate more with colleagues, don't be so withdrawn. After 3 years, you'll become like them, your way of thinking will shift to match theirs.

At this point, you're still poor, your pocketbook might not show much change, but what's in your head has broken through—the ice from your native family has started to melt. Going from a poor person in a village to a poor person in the city—is this standing still? No no no, this is a huge进步. It's not surprising you develop slower than others, because you're not just poor in pocket; you have no family backing, and your initial way of thinking might have been completely incompatible with the city. But at least, you're on the right path. The ice in your head is starting to melt, and you've entered a virtuous cycle.

If you want to become a businessman, stay in an environment full of businessmen. If you want to become an investor, stay in an environment full of investors. If you want to write papers your whole life, stay in academia. A person can't contradict themselves—you can't spend 100% of your time writing papers in academia and then expect to have practical experience and dominate in the market. There's no such twisted success. Just as if you're from the countryside, what you should do is strive to integrate into the city, adapt to the city, rather than expecting the city to come to you proactively.
