Power Grab: Building Your Team Matters More Than Getting Things Done
To wield power, you always need a pretext.
Master this, and even without a title, you can mobilize company resources. Fail to learn it, and even with a title, you risk being treated as a rubber stamp. The purpose of a company is to make money, and if people don't act on matters that benefit profitability, they will inevitably anger the boss. Grasp this point, and you can call upon resources for your use without a title—that is exercising real power.
So, creating a new project means establishing new market rules where you hold the sway.
With a pretext in hand, you can demand people, which is when you can sway others' team members to work for you, disrupt existing relationships, force a realignment of loyalties, and lead people on projects.
Next, integrating company resources actually aims to achieve two objectives.
1. Make all clients accustomed to the new project so that business comes in.
2. Make all internal employees recognize you as their new boss.
If either of these two points isn't achieved, the entire endeavor is a failure.
Seizing power:
The purpose of this isn't just to get things done, but also to take the opportunity to absorb others' teams. Absorbing teams is more important than simply accomplishing tasks.#ReadingNotes
